Malmö is a vibrant, multicultural city connected to Copenhagen via the famous Öresund Bridge. It is very safe for tourists, and the historic Lilla Torg, the castle park, and the Turning Torso area are secure and well-lit. While Malmö has experienced some localized issues with gang-related violence in specific outskirts, these neighborhoods are rarely visited by tourists. The biggest daily hazard is the incredible volume of bicycle traffic; stick strictly to the pedestrian sidewalks and never wander into the red-painted cycle lanes. Also, be aware that Malmö can have strong, biting winds coming off the sea, even in summer, so carry a light windproof jacket.
