Porvoo is a highly picturesque, historic town located just a short bus ride from Helsinki. Famous for its red wooden shore houses and medieval layout, it is an extremely peaceful and safe destination. Crime is negligible. The main hazard for visitors is the town's topography. The Old Town is built on a hill with steep, uneven cobblestone streets. During rain, or especially during the icy winter months, these cobblestones become incredibly slippery and treacherous. High heels or shoes without proper tread are highly discouraged; sensible walking shoes are an absolute necessity for exploring safely.
